Pizza brands ‘fall’ for seasonal specials

October 24, 2018

One of the most innovative times of year is upon us for the pizza universe, with everything from colder weather and football, to Halloween and the start of the winter holidays propelling brands’ most creative marketing maneuvers.

Veg out with PizzaRev

Some of this week’s brands testing the seasonal special waters include PizzaRev, which has launched its Cold Weather initiatives with a capital “C,” as in cauliflower. The brand is offering a Caulipower pizza crust with a very veg-ified pizza this fall featuring basil pesto sauce, oven-roasted cauliflower, goat cheese crumbles, shredded mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and sliced onions on the cauliflower-containing crust this autumn, according to a news release.

The brand will serve the pizza at its 40-plus restaurants nationwide, along with its other varieties.

“Years ago, no one could’ve imagined a pizza crust made from cauliflower,” said CMO Renae Scott in the release. “Beyond the nutritional benefits of the new crust, we find the innovation to be inspiring, and hope our guests and employees also catch that feeling of motivation.”

The pizzas feature the Caulipower-brand crust and are the focus of a newly launched co-branded digital media campaign that invites customers to make their own pizza combinations with the crust.

Russo’s says ‘go big or go home’ this Halloween

This week at Russo’s New York Pizzeria the brand launched it 28-inch Giant Party Pizza that feeds up to 10 people, according to a press release. Halloween is a huge pizza-ordering holiday, of course, and the product is meant to address that demand.

Papa Murphy’s pizzas dress up as pumpkins

At take-and-bake brand Papa Murphy’s, the order of the day is its Jack-O-Lantern Pizza, or just “Jack-O” for the customers who’ve come to love him/it.

The carved pumpkin-looking pies are available as LTOs through the big day, Oct. 31 in both large and family sizes, according to a press release. The brand is also promoting its “Scream of a Deal” offer that gives all those who buy a “Jack-O” the option to also order a pound of made-from-scratch, ready-to-bake chocolate chip cookie dough for $3.
